| Mat
Level I
This class introduces the
exercises and fundamental principles of the Pilates mat
workout. Through a sequence of carefully controlled exercises
the body learns to move from its center and act as its own
resistance, resulting in increased core strength, greater
overall flexibility, and improved posture and alignment.
Mat
Level I/II
This class works on refining
the exercises learned in the Level I class. Increased attention
will be paid to the participants' alignment, breathing and
quality of movement. The Magic Circle, one of Joseph Pilates's
most versatile pieces of apparatus, will be integrated into
the class to add challenge and intensity to the exercises.
Mat
Level II
The Level II class works
towards learning the complete intermediate mat sequence,
including the transitions between the exercises. The result
will be a smooth flowing workout that will increasingly
challenge the participants' concentration, control and stamina.
The Magic Circle continues to be integrated.
Mat
Level II/III
This upper level mat class
continues to refine the exercises of the intermediate mat
and introduces some advanced matwork into the sequence.
The Magic Circle is increasingly used.
Mat
Level III
The Level III class progresses
further into the advanced matwork sequence while emphasizing
the fundamental elements of precision, breath and flow.
Added stress on the exercises’ details and transitions
results in a workout that increasingly challenges the student’s
control and endurance.
Tower
Classes*
This class introduces a piece
of apparatus known as the Wall Unit or “Tower”
into the traditional mat workout. The Tower is spring-based,
meaning the exercises performed there utilize springs either
to create resistance or to assist the body in a movement,
working like “extra muscles.” They include exercises
that target areas that many students wish to strengthen
or reshape, like the legs, arms and upper back. Other exercises
allow students to stretch areas that desperately need a
release, such as the lower back, shoulders and legs.
* It is recommended that
you complete at least one session of Mat Class Level I before
joining a Tower Class. Alternatively, you may schedule a
few private sessions with an instructor who will assess
when you are ready to join the class
Private
Instruction
Private instruction permits
the instructor to adapt the workout to fulfill the individual
needs of the client. Each private session is 50 minutes
and includes work on the mat and apparatus called the Reformer.
Specifically sequenced exercises focus on strengthening
and stretching the body as a whole. The client also uses
other major and minor pieces of apparatus, such as the Cadillac,
the Barrels and the Wunda Chair, according to what he/she
needs to improve. These pieces of apparatus are used to
target certain muscle groups that require extra strengthening
and/or stretching. In the private session, the student experiences
the full method as it is meant to be taught, in the form
of a “system.”
